Diversity in Construction

With so many diverse roles within the construction trade, it is becoming apparent that more and more women are joining the industry. With over 300,000 new homes being built every year in the UK, we need more than a million extra workers by 2020. Leading industry chiefs know they must draw women into construction careers.

Currently, women only make up around 14% of construction industry professionals. With a national campaign to encourage more women to join the industry, this figure should rise to 25% by 2020. Typically known to be a male environment, the wages don't reflect this. Salaries are increasing for female construction workers, and the proportion of women in senior roles has nearly trebled since 2005.

If experts are accurate in their predictions, women could make up half of the new workforce. It would be a significant breakthrough in construction history, in which women have had to fight for recognition and equality in every role.

Here at Marfleets Recruitment, our aim is to focus on increasing equality and bridging the gender gap across construction sites.
